It’s time again to think of the 10 things I am thankful for this week. Let’s go!

1. Losing weight. It’s 2 more off WOOHOO!!

2. Shorts – it’s turning warm and I am glad for less because I know the pool will open soon.

3. Berry Season – Here in NC it’s berry season and I am loving the taste of local berries. I know I mentioned Strawberries last time, but it’s more than that this week. Yummy!!

4. Joy Prom – Daughter attended Joy Prom on Friday and had a blast! I love that this happens each year, sponsored by local churches and vendor assisted.

5. Dental School – I am almost finished with my dental work and I am so grateful for a dental school near enough to get this done. My student graduated, but he stick around until I am finished. Isn’t that a double win?

6. Art – Daughter is here for the weekend and I taught her about Sidewalk Crack Art and she created a cute cardinal. She caught on quickly.

7. The ability to read. I am reading a book as a beta reader for one of my fellow writing peeps and am grateful that I get to enjoy this. I am one chapter 4.

8. Book Club – Thanks to the interest, there is going to be a book club in my living community and I will be leading said club, starting in June.

9. Challenges – I have some physical challenges I am trying to get past and I am grateful that I am able to try.

10. Birth – I was making some taco meat yesterday and discovered that my pepper had given birth.

Ten Things of Thankful – April 26

My Post (20)

Ten Things of Thankful

It’s that time again to ponder on all the gratitudes for the week! This is possibly one of my favorite things to do as it affects my whole week. You start looking at the silver lining of each cloud and start seeing the goodness. So, without much more ado, awaaay we go!! If you don’t know where that came from, then I think I will be nostalgic and start with that one!

1. Jackie Gleason was one of the best comics from my age. I have many fond memories of watching his show and our father saying “Away We Go!”

2. National Poetry Month has gotten my poetry flow going. Today is day 26 and I am still in the running! Here’s probably my favorite so far. Check it out HERE

3. Earth Day – we need this day 365 days a year, if we are going to make a difference. I did a little poem for the earth.
My Post - 2019-04-22T172900.951.jpg

4. Triangle Association of Freelancers Conference is tomorrow and I am over the moon at being able to be in North Carolina Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton-Green’s class!! She was just given an amazing honor. Read about it HERE I hope to learn about her documentary style poetry and more.

5. Joy Prom is provided annually in Raleigh and dear daughter will be attending this year. She last attended several years ago and decided she wanted to go again. I think she will have a great time.

6. Six Sentence Story is still going strong, for me. This week I wrote something that cuts close to my heart. It is likely going to be developed more, as it came to me with more information than I shared. It’s about The Last Haircut I gave my father.

7. The weather has been amazing!!! We did have a storm and today we are expecting another one, but it’s just nature doing what it does. It’s been nice to be able to start wearing shorts. If the pool was open I would have jumped in!

8. The library is something I am super thankful for. We walked to the library last night and picked up three books I had on hold. It’s nice we live so close and I love how they can get the books I want, pretty much. I also request that they buy certain books and many times they have followed though. The librarians are super nice and it’s cool how they are so eager to assist.

9. Art has infiltrated my brain! I am an artist, but I go in spells with creativity. I started doing some mindfulness art with a free class and now I am slowly going through another series for your sketchbook. It can be challenging to try new things, but it’s also fun. Here’s one item I made.

10. Accomplishment. I worked on a special project of which was a new challenge and it is complete and I feel a little bit more experienced and that’s all can say about it. It’s a secret…shhh

10.1 BONUS!! I lost 4# since my last report and I forgot to report last week.

So, there you have it! One more week of yahoos!! How about you? Do you feel yahooistic? Go for it and share. The more, the merrier!!

Treasures of Life

Folklore and such regard the number 13 as cursed but I say it’s not.
Have you ever found anything justify this to be true?
We had to write an essay about Friday the 13th and this was a mystery.
My baby brother was born five years after me; Mom bought him a t-shirt with the number 13, so there you go.
He was never less than anybody.
He was my heartbeat and each day with him was a treasure.

May I tell you about this boy I treasure?
When he was born, they gave me a choice to go to kindergarten or not.
I made the best choice of anybody.
The thought of having my little baby brother all to myself brought me such joy.
Nowhere was where I wanted to go.
Why anybody would not want such pleasure would be a mystery.

Something happened after my baby brother was born and it is a mystery.
While it was one of those unknowns of nature, it only made us realize that life is a treasure.
He had to have an operation to survive and give life a go.
There never was a negative, doubt or belief in the word of: not.
We all celebrated this precious boy, brought to this world to bring us such joy.
We would have loved if he didn’t have challenges, not to be wished on anybody.

All I knew is that I was as fortunate as anybody.
Although it would remain for us to solve the mystery.
It was important to celebrate each joy.
You learn just how much to treasure.
And deny those things which mean not.
For all the things that give you the go, go, go.

Mother had limits on how she could go.
She did not want to trouble anybody.
Complain, never one time did she, not.
Somehow it all worked like a mystery.
She taught us to care for children was a treasure.
She sang when she cleaned house, keeping time with her flip flops, such joy.

They taught us that life and children brought joy.
We learned that if we wanted to be somewhere, we had to find a way to go.
To have a soul in our hands was a treasure.
We were role modeled not to complain or brag about our lives to anybody.
To live is to accept that life has many a mystery.
And to give up on life is a great big not.

To treasure your life is to know perfect joy.
To never hear not is to know it’s all a great go.
If you ask me now if I could ever love anybody I can tell you that love is a mystery.

Today’s National Poetry Month prompt is from Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetic Asides: for today’s prompt, write a lucky number poem. Some people have lucky numbers, some don’t. Wherever you fall on the lucky number spectrum, you can still write a poem about the phenomenon of lucky numbers and/or luck in general.

Inspired by Aruna Murumurthy and her lovely book of Sestina Poetry: Puppet Dolls, having participated in her Sestina workshop, I am trying to pen my first Sestina. To learn about Sestina you can go to Poetry Foundation or to Poetic Asides Each site has a slightly different point of view about the Sestina.

I Am Jealous of Leo

I Am Jealous of Leo

Brothers, sisters, this is true
I have a story to tell to you

Years ago I learned of love
from a soul who has moved to places above

Leo Buscaglia is his name, a man of fame
He’s known for the Love books and lectures he gave

It was quite the movement so many years past
Love is truly something that lasts

Aside from his story of letting go and loving
There’s another one written that I find so moving

The name of the book is The Way of The Bull
There’s nothing quite as moving as the places he’d go

You see, Leo traveled to Asia, but not by tradition
No fancy hotels or sites of illusion

Leo traveled the way of the bull
In the spirit of Zen on these trips he would go

To gain such insight of the way of mankind
And finding the nature of man to unwind

The wealth of the story, although it’s not long
Is taking the chance to release your big strong

Allowing the moments of life to unfold
For truly the best things of life are not gold

It’s walking barefoot because they’ve no shoes
It’s sharing your undies when they gave you foods

It’s longing for loving and not for the junk
It’s giving your all with cheer and with spunk

So, yes I am jealous of Leo, it’s true
For to travel abroad such a way I’d pursue

Maybe one day, when I am old and gray
Nary much time left, I best find the way

Then again, when I look at my land of milk and honey
I needn’t travel far to see what is of plenty

So, jealous I am, but unable I’m not
It’s finding the joy in what is in my lot

So, there you have it! This is Day 7 of National Poetry Month and today’s prompt from Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetry Asides:
For today’s prompt, write a jealous poem. Maybe you’re jealous. Or maybe someone else is jealous of you–or someone else. Whether envious of another or suspicious of a partner, dive deep into this emotion today.

It’s that time again to express my 10 Things of Thankful or TTOT.

1. So, I did this for another challenge called The Six Sentence Challenge. I thought it fit in the theme of gratitude. You can hop over to read my actual post on my blog. Today, I wrote about the word “Clear” and I am grateful to have memories to work with to tell my story.  You can read it HERE

2. Gratitude for the gift of second opinions and that this has moved me on the right track with medications.

3. My two nephews who were in accidents and are on the other side. I did a post about Cardinals and I am grateful for the signs of those who have passed. Here’s the LINK

4. Winning! I won a contest called “First Sentence Challenge” and I received my winning poster yesterday. You can see what it looks like HERE and my winning poem. Yay me!

5. I met a goal in my professional life and it’s going to help me do better.

6. I am almost done with taxes. The price mysteriously increased while I was doing them and I am not having that! So…time to call the tax people.

7. My blog friend, Jacki, who advises about finances. This is a huge interest of mine, since we have changed our lives to be more minimal and it’s really helped. Here’s her WEBSITE and I think it’s awesome! We used her website for a class in a meetup last week.

8. Humor! I turned on NetFlix the other day just to get relief from all the crazy! What a fun time just listening to comedy.

9. Connecting with people. It makes a big difference when we find people we truly connect with. This week I received a message from my friend who I promptly called, because texting was not going to work. I am happy that I chose to do so.

10. April 15th. I am grateful that it’s 45 days after today when that day comes.
Here’s the Blog Hop LINK FOR TTOT Why not take a look?
