Fishing for Answers

Shaking the wrinkles from the old, worn coat, he placed his arms into the sleeves, one by one and proceeded to gather up his fishing gear and head to the river.

Thinking time was what he needed, and that old coat was a necessary part of his life, as he felt the comfort, the familiarity and what he swore was the scent of his daddy’s old pipe tobacco.

Standing at the shore, doing more thinking than fishing, he snagged a few but no real keepers, until finally, right after spotting the most vivid red cardinal, he hooked the biggest fish he had seen in a long time,  maybe even when his daddy was with him many years ago.

“Yes, I understand now, daddy, and I will do just that tonight, see you the next time.”

With a determined gait, he double stepped it back to his place and cleaned up, knowing he needed to have a spit shiny image in order to accomplish his goal.

With her bright red curls shadowing her sparkling blue-green eyes, she smiled the most beautiful, wide smile, all before he took her hand and said, “it’s time for me to talk to your daddy, but first I want to make sure it’s okay with you,” and he knelt to the ground.

This is my contribution to the Six Sentence Story for this week where Denise provides us a prompt word each each. This weeks word was “coat.”

Painting by Kay Doiron
Wowzers! This month has flown by!! Let’s get the party started!

1. – 3. Cardinals – Family – Heavenly Visitors: The photo for my header this morning is a painting my near great niece, Kay, painted for her grandmother, my sister.

The cardinal represents those we have lost coming back to visit. We lost two fans of Saint Louis Cardinals, our nephews Keith – whose birthday is today – and Michael, whose birthday is in March. Keith is shown here playing his guitar and Michael at the Cardinal’s stadium. We were blessed to have these two in our lives and they are truly missed.

4. Weather – is it spring or still winter? It’s crazy, but at least the sun is trying to shine.

5. Write Now is coming up in May and I am excited about all the choices of presenters. I am going to have a hard time narrowing down my choices, but there are far worse problems to have. Here is the link to #WriteNow2020

6. Poetry – Tomorrow is a Poetry Meetup of which your’s truly has put together. Wish me luck! It looks to have a nice turnout, right here in Raleigh!

7. Art – I have been working diligently on art work for my current WIP and it’s coming along well, although it’s taking longer than thought. All is well, though.

Birth Day

Belinda’s red tresses were gracefully swept back with a slice of the blue gingham Barton gave her for their anniversary, knowing her love of blue and how beautiful it accented her copper crown.

Betty Lou carried her tools to the duplex where Barton and Belinda made their home, Clement sniffed at the bag and licked Betty on her calf, Clement loved Betty almost as much as the salt she emitted.

Barton was working the mines, trusting that Betty Lou would be there for his bride when the time came for their first born to enter the world, how much he wanted to be there, but knew that he needed to keep making a living to provide for his family.

Bellowing was not Belinda’s way, but the beauty of childbirth brought with it truer than true pains and this was no exception as the baby was ready to be born.

Bathing the birth mother with the gentlest strokes, Betty Lou prepared for the great event, watching and waiting for the grand entrance of the new soul into the world.

Bawling from the first bit of air to his lungs, the little bitty boy announced his birthday to all who could hear, surely in the next door range, at least; a precious baby boy was born into the world, the world of coal miners, loving family, and his first best buddy, Clement, coming as close as he could to make sure his new prince would be safe.

Not Just Another Fish in the Sea

Hermaphrodites
Clownfish are like this oh yes
does that change the tale?
or simply change the posits
interesting facts to learn

poor male Anglerfish
one chomp and your duty’s done
nature’s own fusion
how much did they wish it true?
being barnacles would rule

Monoecious fish
they have versatility
the soup of the day
one moment his, another hers
puts a new spin on humans

Ten Things of Thankful – February 21 2020

Holding a big heart in hands, pretty pink.

It’s time for the Ten Things of Thankful or TTOT Perhaps this is the week you would like to join us. If so, there’s a link at the bottom and you can jump into the wonderful pool of warm thankfuls! Make a splash!

1-5. Safety on the roads – It’s snow and ice happenings here in NC and the news stays on top of it. I am grateful for the updates and that I can turn to Spectrum 14 to get 24/7 coverage. Being an equal opportunity watcher, though, I turn to various local channels. Sometimes you need a new face or wardrobe change. So, grateful for news coverage, grateful for safety for my own household grateful I don’t have to go out in this, grateful I have my warm blanket, grateful to have power.

6. Good numbers – Got my lab results for my three month check in and most numbers are looking good. And happy I am able to change one of them for the better. And my blood pressure is much better!

7. Writing Conference – the TAF Write Now 2020 Conference is coming up in May. I am excited to attend and meet other writers and learn from the experts. Thought I would share the link in case any of you are close by. TAFWriteNow2020

8. French Press – My friends gave me this lovely French Press for my 60th birthday (been a bit ago) and I enjoy it so much. If you are a coffee drinker, you might want to try this. One of my coffee shops serve pourovers, which is almost as good.

9. Recipes – I am so grateful that I can go online and pull up pretty much any recipe I wish. It is so convenient. While I still rely on the old family cookbooks, too, I enjoy the ease of finding recipes online.

10. YOU! You are the most wonderful person to read this far! And now you get a chance to share your TTOT!! Go for it! Go ahead… Boom! It’s done!
