ANNOUNCEMENT! Dear Heart has been published!

Before computers, we wrote letters. My mother’s letters were like little novellas, several pages long. Her family members and friends loved to get her “books.” Letters from mom were heartfelt and brought tears of love. As her pen moved passionately across the pages, sometimes her clear, blue eyes would well up. Letters were her release. They were her way of expressing herself in ways she could not voice. Occasionally, she would write letters to people out of anger and then tear them up. These could have been to politicians, relatives, and those are the ones I knew about. She would express her heart’s desire, open up her soul, and pour out her thoughts.

While I did not have the beautiful penmanship of my mother, I learned that the pen was my power. Some of my letters were releases which I destroyed. At age 15, I even wrote one about the need for a doctor in our little town. The letter and story was published in the newspaper.

As a writer and a poet, I write as if my words are letters to the world, perhaps to express the desires of my heart. Other times I write to simply write.

When we do express our desires within our heart this has a way of stirring up thoughts and even action plans to make things happen. They could be acceptances of things that can’t be changed, but often are steps toward courage to make something happen.

I posed this question and requested to others: What is the desire in your heart? This is my challenge to you. I would like to read about the desires in your heart in the “Dear Heart” anthology of letters, poetry, art, photography, and whatever ways helps you express your passion.

There was a caveat to this. In honor of my mother, the expressions were to be sent to me via good old fashioned snail mail.

Now, it is my pleasure to bring to you these beautiful heartfelt responses via Dear Heart.

Ten Things of Thankful February 19 2022

It’s TTOT time! Let’s jump to it!

  1. Deals on graphics programs. I love it when it all just comes together when my budget matches my purchase.
  2. Sweet Dreams. When I have them, it is a celebration and I sure had sweet dreams a couple nights.
  3. Seeing sunshine and feeling warmth. Spring can spring anytime it wants.
  4. Coffee breaks with real people. Using caution, it is now possible. Baby steps.
  5. Events to come. We have one event coming up to show appreciation, a dedication:

6. The other event to come is the Book Launch for Zaneta Varnado Johns “After the Rainbow: Golden Poems.”

7. I am most grateful for the volunteerism and the devotion for both of these events. When you put the call out there and you get chill bumps from the supporters, well that’s a triple coated ice cream cone with sprinkles and nuts of thankfuls.

8. We had a nice celebration of daughter’s birthday. She always likes those Pepperridge Farms cakes, so that makes it easy. It’s a throwback to her younger years when they were used to celebrate during a very busy life. I think she was pleased with her birthday goodies. She always gets something she wanted for Christmas as we look at those end of year deals for her birthday. She was surprised, however, and that made it even better.

9. Getting through January. It’s a month of highs and lows, mostly lows and I got through it.

10. YOU! It’s good to see you! What’s you thankful? Put them in comments or join us!

Ten Things of Thankful – June 4 2021

Good Morning and happy Friday and happy June!! Let’s get started.

  1. I like this sky picture because it is beautiful with the various colors and designs, just like people, we are all different, but look whatever a majestic presence we represent. I am thankful for this and that all people have a place in the grand scheme of things.
  2. I like the rain, despite it cutting into play time at the pool, it is watering the many gardens of life and while it’s coming down, we can take the time to do other things and be creative.
  3. It’s June, which – like the last couple of months – is getting a new name “Majun” I am wondering if the rest of the year will be like this. I do like cooler weather, so I won’t complain.
  4. Berries – they are sweeter and I love it!
  5. I am in this book which is from the Triangle Association of Freelancers. It’s essays and poetry about books which have made a difference in our lives. I am happy to be among those accepted for this book.

6. It is First Friday and it is usually when the artists and musicians and foodies celebrate in and outdoors in Raleigh and many of the venues for art are free to enjoy. We have gone several times and particularly enjoy the variety of art and seeing artists in their studios. If the weather is decent, you will likely see dancing in the streets by performing groups, perhaps a drum formation and whatever is ever whatever on the agenda.

7. I have been doing some videos with David Martin, Founder and Chief Editor of Fine Lines. These are fun to do and I always learn something new. Summer Camp is coming up, too. Here’s the last video we did about journaling:

8. Summer Camp is coming soon! I hope to see you there.

9. I saved the best for last: Daughter appears to be moving a little bit better. Baby steps, but I think that PT is helping. It’s a slow process, but eventually she will be back to her old, feisty self.

10. YOU! What’s up with your life? I saw some geese and their babies walking alongside the road the other day and they were adorable. How can we not smile at nature’s new offspring! Please do share your thankfuls.

Ten Things of Thankful – April 9 2021

Happy Friday and TTOT day! I found my graphic for National Poetry Month. I has saved it and couldn’t figure out where and there is was in a special folder for April. Duh… Let’s see what’s on the thankful meter…

  1. I found said graphic. Isn’t it pretty. This month is all things poetry. It’s been busy already, but I always look forward to it.
  2. The say to not stare at the sun because it can mess up your vision. After the good news I could not share, I looked at the shadows, the clouds and saw some glimmers of silvers linings which showed me that, a too bright sun can shine the light but you have to pay attention to the clouds. That’s the silver linings part, the clouds showed me that the news I could not and still cannot share was not to be and I am thankful that I was able to make a choice about the decision.
  3. The Poets Coffee Table Talk turned out beautiful. It was well attended and the sharing, the poetry, the important messages about social justice all came together to what I think is an increased awareness.
Susi Bocks shared about her anthology and some of us read contributions.

4. Heart Beats is published and there are two poetry readings on Saturday. These will be by contributors to the anthology. I am thankful how this is all coming together and I am excited to bring all this talent together under one virtual roof. And I am grateful for all the poets for their contributions. Here are the links if interested.

5. I had my annual physical and my numbers were pretty decent. A couple of tweaks needed, but over all, it is not bad. And I have shot number two out of the way. I have a lot of tiredness from it and soon this will pass.

6. The collaboration is coming along nicely.

7. I have been reading a lot of poetry and doing reviews. How would that not be a huge thankful?!!

8. I have contracted again this year for judging a competition. I am grateful for this opportunity.

9. I am grateful I don’t have to go out in the pollen. Not everybody has this choice and I pray for them to be able to manage each day.

10. YOU! What’s your thankful? Please do share either in comments or by posting a blog post. We love to hear good news. Bernie is all ears!!

Ten Things of Thankful – April 2 2021

Happy Friday and TTOT Day! Let’s get hopping!

  1. National Poetry Month! Of course, this gets top billing on my thankfuls! This is one of my favorite months. Every day I write a poem to a prompt and I also write a private poem. The short poems I share and the private poem is saved for possible publishing. I am grateful for this month of focus. It amazes me how much good comes from it all.
  2. Daughter has been helping me with creating special cards for a secret project. She is such a huge help with these things.
  3. Vaccine shot #2 happened on Tuesday. I am grateful for vaccines and grateful for each day closer to getting past the effects of the shot (hey I have to frame it as a pozzie, right).
  4. Grateful for great news I can’t share. Just trust it is super thankfully awesome!
  5. Grateful that the anthology is up and running and the participants are going to read their contributions on April 10.
  6. Thankful for Good Friday and Easter Sunday for the representation of love and light. It is a reminder of how we are all lights for love in this world.
  7. Thankful that my friend tested negative for COVID.
  8. Thankful for so many wonderful books to read and enjoy.
  9. Thankful for coffee and probably those close to me are also thankful I have coffee.
  10. YOU! What do you feel gratitudes for? You can share here or post a post. And you can even share it by clicking on the blue box. Peeker the chickie wants to know!
