Ten Things of Thankful-April 7, 2025

April Showers bring May Flowers, and this woman is one very thankful person for gratitude #1 RAIN!!! Over the past month, I have been buying up plants to get ready for the outdoor pots. I even bought some shade friendly flower seeds, since my porch is not super sunny. I gave all of my plants a good working over and they are all waiting in line for their transition. I am grateful #2 for all the plants. When I see pretty flowers, it just cheers up my day.

#3 is BIRD MANIA!! I LOVE this! The little chirpers are just having the time of their lives! They visit the porch often, probably looking for building materials or nesting places. I was in a zoom interview with a writer a while ago and we were serenaded by the birds. IT was lovely.

#4 is that daughter is having a great time with her bowling league sponsored by Special Olympics. Her average has improved pretty quickly. It’s cool that she has co-workers in the league. #5 She has taken off well with her barista responsibilities. She loves telling visitors about the history of the company for which she works. An ambassador, I suppose we could say.

#6 Tax season is longer this year due to hurricane extensions. I am very grateful that the office is providing suppers for the accounting team and hubby gets a nice, hot meal at work. It’s odd at home as I am used to cooking supper, but we ladies have been eating light since it’s good for us.

#7 If you follow this blog, then you can see there are many thankfuls in my business world. There are several books published or in the process of being published. I love the fact that one of the authors, namely Kaelen Felix, placed as a finalist for her children’s book Wings and Whispers, Tales of Friendship, Volume 1.

#8 National Poetry Month has kept me hopping and I am grateful for the energy to keep up. #9 Times in my life when I have had the pleasure of getting to know two beautiful people who have both crossed over to the other side. And that there is a place for peace through prayers and support for those closest to these fine people. Even as distance affects these relationships, the social media connection has kept us communicating.

#10 You! I am grateful for this blog family who always has hope in all things. I am truly blessed to have you in my life.

And that’s a wrap!

SHOUT OUT! to Laura Stamps, Pet Advocate

Photo by Sam Lion on Pexels.com

It’s not every day that I shout out someone’s birthday, but here we are. Laura Stamps, who I consider the ultimate pet advocate, and fun-loving poet and writer, has reached a new year! As some of you may know, she is a cat mom, specializing in helping rescue cats. She has a senior feline household and loves them up on the regular.

I also happen to know that she is a dog person, as well. And she celebrates this with her advocacy work.

I met Laura through her doggie books where she shares stories with prose poetry. If you want to find humor in your life, I highly recommend Laura’s books. Full disclosure: we have published three of Laura’s books but have read more. They are addictive. They are family friendly. They are educational and entertaining, all in one.

Here is Laura’s latest creation and you may want to grab a copy for your favorite person. Laura will even autograph a copy for you.

Ten Things of Thankful-February 3, 2025

Welcome to TTOT and Let’s hop to it!

  1. It’s Black History Month and I am most grateful for the many ways our lives have been affected by the contributions, the essence of Black persons. If there ever was a time to stand up and cheer, this is the time.
  2. You may notice that the month has started out with daily posts dedicated to the beauty of Black souls. Expect to keep seeing these. I am grateful that the choices are boundless.
  3. As some may notice, I don’t get my thankfuls up on a weekly basis. I still remain thankful, it’s just that the clock runs away from me, from time to time. I am thankful for your patience.
  4. One Saturday a month, there are several of us who are creatives who get together for sharing and working on projects. I am grateful for this consistency and real life meetings.
  5. Once a week there is a small group of us who get together at a local coffee shop. We share about a variety of topics and then work on our individual projects. We got off schedule in December and January have gradually gotten back on track. I believe we are full force forward, now. Our greatest decision is which location to choose. Raleigh has several options. I am grateful for this.
  6. I have been desiring in my heart to have a specified time to focus in quiet and while my mind is fresh for the day. My inner clock heard me (I don’t use alarms) and I have been naturally waking up between 3-4 a.m. The coffee goes on and the writing begins. This inner clock does like to wake me on weekends, too. We need to have a talk…
  7. Due to #6 I am grateful for nap time. And for early sleep times. As many of you know, I have had a time getting on a good sleep pattern. It has been going so much better.
  8. So many great things are happening that I will do one big whopping THANKFUL SHOUT OUT!
  9. I am thankful that I don’t need to believe a rodent about this spring thing. I am planning to have flowers blooming at first tweet.
  10. You! I am thankful for you. Please share with your blog or in comments or to the world, what your thankfuls are.

Ten Things of Thankful-January 13, 2025

Photo by Raul Kou017eenevski on Pexels.com

Happy TTOT Time! So many things to be thankful for…Let’s do this!

  1. Another birthday! This time it was for my sweetheart. We had a home celebration with a favorite meal. He had cheesecake at work, so nothing made at home. But…there’s always ice cream!
  2. Workshop time! We had an interesting Poetry Workshop at the Garden of Neuro. Chyrel Jackson and I taught it. The theme was “Social commentary from the perspective of community, race, rage, social injustice.” We are writing a group poem as a result.
  3. Projects that find a way to getting done. Whew and I sent another book to the press.
  4. Cardinal spotted! I don’t see them often and never have seen one on the porch, but there was a fat one looking for dinner, just hopping around the porch. He didn’t like what I had to offer. I suppose the squirrels will.
  5. Sister memories. Speaking of cardinals. Cardinals are symbolic-in our family-of memories about my nephews Michael and Keith. Both were Saint Louis Cardinals fans, big time. My sister, who passed away a few years ago in January, received a cardinal painting from my great niece, who painted it.

7. As a family, we participated in the Angel Card Project for Christmas. We expanded this, now to other occasions. As many of you know, daughter makes cards. She has been sending more cards for special occasions, such as if someone is sick and needs cheering. And now, she seems to have become the sympathy card sender. She decided to make some sympathy cards awhile back and now she’s being asked. It’s a great feeling to know that someone might smile when they receive a card. I am happy that daughter has found this hobby.

8. Glimpses of heaven. A friend shared their testimony about how they had a near death experience and how they were told, from the other side, that what they would take with them, what the memories would be, would be the love. Love is the one thing that you would remember and take with you. It really got me to thinking about how the soul is simply full of love moments.

9. Flowers and a sweet exchange. My sweetheart loves flowers. It’s understandable, since his father established a tulip bulb business in Mount Airy, NC after years of traveling from their home in the Netherlands. Sweetie doesn’t really feel comfortable picking out flowers for me, but since he would like me to enjoy them, he makes sure I can get some when I get a notion. My go to place is usually Trader Joe’s. I was there last week, picking out a bouquet, and a lady probably my age struck up a conversation with me. She was selecting a bouquet for herself. She was so sweet and telling me about her relationship with her ex and how she preferred the flowers over him. ha-ha All through the store, I kept running into her and she always smiled. I just found this to be a joyful moment.

10. You! What’s your thankful this week? Please share. Oh, and this is coming up! I will be one of the presenters. 🙂
