Reaching for the stars, she grasped the lowest hanging cloud, ever elusive coolness. What new life there might be as she sought her forever. Climbing, reaching, falling, she learned that new life means living through what’s in her power. It’s also searching through dreams. Truly the sky may be within her reach.

It’s time again for Ten Things of Thankful or TTOT! Can you believe we are 10 days into 2020? If you have made resolutions, I hope it has gone well. Or, maybe goals are more your thing. I continue to work on my health as my #1 goal. Without further delay, let’s rock into the post.

Internet – As the internet has been out much of the day, I am grateful for the internet and for the outage. Yes, that’s right! The outage forced me to clean up some files on my computer and now my writing files are much more tidy. I also found some poetry which is unpublished and organized those so I could start working on another project. Of course, no internet also means I can still write, just not online, so this may be delayed, but it will happen sooner or later. Did you miss me, yet?
2.

5.
Physical Therapy – It’s helping to get help for my neck and back. Progress is being made and I have had 2 better days, thus far this week.
6.
Writing Friends – My friend came over today to write with me. While we did not have the internet, we were able to get things done. And we got to bounce ideas off each other. I love when I can get together with other writers. And we had lunch at my place. So, writing and food, how can you go wrong?
7.
News from Close Friends – My close friends in another state recently purchased and moved into a house. I am very excited for them to be able to settle down in their beautiful digs.
8.

Have a great week and remember that there’s always something to be thankful for.
Epic poems speak of heroics, perhaps historical or not. If writing an epic poem of this day and age, I would have to focus on first responders. This could be the military, police, EMTs, fire persons, Coast Guard, for example. How would you define the one hero in the epic poem? This would be a dilemma as it’s not one person who is often the hero, but a team. Who would you choose for an epic poem subject for this day?

There you have it, my six sentence story. Here’s how it works:
Rules of the hop: Write 6 Sentences. No more. No less.

Come back here on Thursday, link your post…
Spread the word and put in a good one to your fellow writers 🙂
When I took a poetry class last year, we studied one of Gwendolyn Brooks poems: We Real Cool. This was followed by a Meetup when she was the featured Pulitzer Prize winning poet. She was also the first black woman to be named Poet Laureate of the United States. Brooks wrote over 20 books of poetry as well as other works, including a novel.
For Dead Poets Live I would like to devote the prompt focus on the works of Brooks.
To see what Gwendolyn Brooks wrote in The Bean Eaters, I would suggest going to the link, due to respect of the copyright. Following is my poem with respect to this poem:
Beans and Rice
Dressing the table simply with each day’s dishes.
No need for pompous ways or grandiose wishes.
They rather like the mix of flora and fauna,
cracking adding to the character of their plates.
Living the life of goodness, much of the time.
Each day lived to the best it can be,
No fuss or gussy ways,
Simple appreciating what they have,
Regarding it as such.
As they recall,
Remembering the efforts and gloss of the sweat beaded days.
As they taste the goodness in their humble givings of beans and rice,
They look about their rental home.
doilies, fringes, rick racks and braided toys
a crank engine, hair saver, and celluloid doll
and this is the life of the tin roofed rich.
