Epic poems speak of heroics, perhaps historical or not. If writing an epic poem of this day and age, I would have to focus on first responders. This could be the military, police, EMTs, fire persons, Coast Guard, for example. How would you define the one hero in the epic poem? This would be a dilemma as it’s not one person who is often the hero, but a team. Who would you choose for an epic poem subject for this day?

First responders are epic heroes, courageous and strong. Nurses are heroes, because, from my own personal experience, they do the heavy lifting of healing.

Very thought provoking.
I suspect there are some hidden in the shadows quiet epic heroes as well, just doing whatever is needed.
