Isn’t that the truth?! Things are things are things, but people – well – you don’t want to put them on a shelf to collect dust. They are much more fun! And it’s time to think about those things we are thankful for and by things, I believe I will make sure to mention peopley things. Whatcha think about that?

And awaaaaaay we go!!

1.2.3.4.5. Getting Away – We got away for a night to visit family in Mount Airy. We enjoyed taking walks down the hallways of the retirement community, taking pictures at entryways and in the various places for people to commune. There were several trees, all uniquely decorated. It helped bring on the spirit. We enjoyed a lovely visit with headed back home earlier than planned. Icy roads were predicted for this morning, so we thought it best to head back last night. It was a lovely drive back with very little traffic and we are grateful that was uneventful.

6. Six Sentence Story is always a great challenge. This time, I decided to think of the season and this is what I came up with: True Hearts are Never Absent I am grateful for Denise’s devotion with prompting us and challenging us each week.

7. Wedding! My great nephew is getting married this weekend. He lives in Alabama and they are going away to all things Harry Potter! I am very happy for them as they embark on new adventures together.

8. Education – As I am working on my latest book, I am finding that there are areas I want to focus on a little more in depth than originally planned. I had a pop-up opportunity to learn some new information and meet some really nice people who could be a resource. So, new connections, as well.

9. Poet Community – This weekend is the party for the poets in this area and I look forward. While I have read poetry to people before, it’s been a while. Maybe it’s time to break out of my comfort zone. Especially since I have been asked to read the poetry of a famous poet. I just don’t know who until they hand me the poem. Surprises!!

10. You! I am thankful for you coming here and paying a visit. Perhaps you would like to join in and add your post of thankfuls.

Stairway of Life

Stairs, when young were fun
adventurous as we crawled, then
ran up oh so fast
at four, I tumbled downstairs
it was my first memory

funny thing about
stairs, how they take us up and
down we go again
it’s kind of like life, you know
there are ascents and descents

taking the first steps
is such a challenge to do
also, to observe
cajoling along the way
making sure they climb safely

once they are alone
taking their own steps, choices
going up and down
how we want to be there and hold
hands out like we’re banisters

letting them go free
is one of the toughest things
but oh, so vital
to watch their independence
wishing they would hold your hands

holding them in hearts
keeping watch and being there
just enough to show
they have got this, and they know
you are going to be there

then there comes a time
when you’re not so much around
and they’re on their own
then you trust that all you’ve done
is enough and hope it’s true

and before you know
they are helping someone else
crawling up those stairs
holding hands and guiding them
it’s the circle of dear life

when you are the one
who needs help as you ascend
trusting they will be
holding you close in their hearts
and the world moves at your pace

you will know the life
as the descent comes for sure
where the light still shines
from the glow of your most dear
as you make that final climb

It’s that time again to visit the many reasons for thankfulness. So,without delay, let’s get started:

1. Art: My Post (14).png

2. Sisterhood: This was taken on New Years and I am the younger one. My sister, Paula, would have turned 69 on November 18 and I am grateful for the time she was on this side of the veil. And I always seem to know when she peeking in on me.

short story

Time to Get Up!

Taking his job seriously, Daddy was always up at 5 a.m. and almost as early on the weekends, making sure he and the household was up and on time for events of the day.

A fine Saturday morning, I was in a deep slumber, when Daddy came knocking on my door. “Time to get up, you are going to be late for school!”

Rubbing my eyes and jumping from the bed, it took me a moment or two to realize it was Saturday and no school.

Daddy laughed and laughed and then announced that breakfast was ready.

You couldn’t argue this, Daddy was on time and he made the best breakfasts I have ever tasted, so there’s that and I soon forgot his joke, until I told it many times since.
