10 Things of Thankful-First Week of February

I have decided to participate in the Ten Things of Thankful (TTOT) challenge. Here are my 10 things I am grateful for in the past week:

1. I received the most amazing gift! As I have pain issues with fibromyalgia and arthritis as well as never being able to get warm in the winter, I had mentioned this to my kindred spirit, soul sister and was so wonderfully surprised to receive a heated blanket. It works like an electric blanket except it’s smaller and you can use it on the couch or chair or on the bed. I love it!
2. Being able to choose foods to eat healthy. This is not something to take for granted.
3. That I have the ability to delete, mute, turn off things that just aggravate me.
4. It’s been very nice weather and I have been able to take short walks.

5. My cold is coming to an end. It’s been a rough week or more and I am grateful that our household is becoming cough free, almost.
6. Reading. I finished a reading of a book that is going to be published soon. It’s not my book, as I read it as a beta reader. I do a lot of beta reading and find it very enjoyable.
7. Water. I hydrate a lot and my go to drink is water. Mother always said it was the only drink to really quinch your thirst. She was right.
8. Poetry is my life line. I am working on a special secret project and it’s been fun.
9. 14  Words For Love project is something I try to participate in every day. You take 14 words to express love. This is any kind of love, not just romantic love. It really helps to stop and write these every day. It is always good to think of love, I think.

10. The Sestina poetry workshop mentioned before had a great turnout and has me thinking of doing more poetry workshops. OK So that’s maybe 3 gratitudes for poetry, but all just a little different.

I will leave this with a poem I wrote recently. It is in response to a daily prompt I find on Twitter on #BardBits

Rocking chair, oh wait for me
I’m in my spring, not winter theme
Go forward, back
Let the runners rock
I’m not yet there
Though I’m quite aware
Let me have more springs, oh please
give me time to fill my needs
Autumn comes and winter falls
There’s still time past menopause

The Vessel – 6 Sentence Story

My Post (88).jpg

Gently, she placed the heart in the sterile container.

Carefully, the vessel was transported to the recipient.

Cautiously, surgeons attached the heart to the grateful patient.

Lovingly, caregivers assisted their loved one to regain health.

Joyfully, the recovery was uneventful.

Celebratively, care would forever be taken of the heart.

10 Things of Thankful – Last Week of January

I have decided to participate in the Ten Things of Thankful (TTOT) challenge. Here are my 10 things I am grateful for in the past week:

1. That I am Loved – Every day I am reminded of this and it makes all the difference in the world. I am so blessed with devotion and respect.
2. My Kid – She’s going to be 43 in February, but she’s still my kid and always will be. She is a blessing. It’s great to see what she’s done with her life. She leads well where she lives and she’s devoted to making a difference in other’s lives.
3. People went back to work for the government. Hallelujah!
4. Sticking to my food plan. Some days are better than others, but I am doing so much better. Lost 11.5 pounds since Jan 2. It helps tp have such wonderful support at home. Yay me!
5. Job opportunities for part time at home workers. They are there and I am grateful.
6. Quiet-I have always been one who needs some white noise or melody in the background while working on stuff, but I am getting more used to working without this sound. It came on me one day that I was writing in absolute silence and it worked. I don’t know if my brain is slowing down or catching up, but it’s nice to not have to think about it.
7. Hot herbal teas. I am trying to wean from coffee after mornings, especially on week days. It helps my sleep hygiene. Where did they come up with the term “sleep hygiene?” It sounds like a bath or shower before bed. That helps, too, but I don’t think that’s what they mean. And melatonin. I found a brand that works…not all are alike.
8. Fitness Center-We have one and use it. It helps to have a close place to get some exercise. And the walk there is a nice warm up.
9. Poetry-I participated in a Poetry Germination Workshop this past Sunday and it was great to get together with others with a common love for poetry.
This didn’t come from the workshop, but here is a poem I wrote yesterday. I try to write a small poem every day and work on others in my between times.

On Friday I am participating in a workshop about Sestina poetry. I set it up for my friend and fellow poet Aruna Gurumurthy, who has written several books, but her book Puppet Dolls is all Sestina poetry. You might want to take a look right here: Puppet Dolls

Soft blue, crocheted
Hand and heart into allure, feelings
like a new heart, new souls
enter her domain, cuddling
in the blanket, soft
protecting the skin, pink
cheeks and 10 toes, counting
turn around 3 times to a haze, blue
light in her eyes, looping
leaving, gone
Lisa Tomey

10. Cooking-I have been trying new things in the kitchen. That’s a given for me, as I have always liked cooking, especially trying new things.

10 Things of Thankful Challenge

I have decided to participate in the Ten Things of Thankful (TTOT) challenge. Here are my 10 things I am grateful for in the past week:

1. Family and Friends who become family-I have had a nice spark of happy from one of my besties who lives a good ways away. Thankful for ways to keep communicating via text and social media messenger.
2. Positivity – we went to the retirement community to see Mama and the positives there are so wonderful. We played BINGO and I love seeing people having fun.
3. Freedom and those who make it possible-I am especially mindful of this in light of the government shutdown.
4. Good food and that I always have food-I love to buy groceries and enjoy that I am able to buy good, healthy food.
5. Freedom of expression-despite the fact that I have to ignore some negativity, I enjoy that there is still this freedom.
6. Colors-how dull would life be without color? Lately, I have had this on my mind as I have friends with sight issues.
7. Warm days and the ability to warm cold ones-maybe I should say I am thankful that I was reminded by my good friend how beneficial a heating pad is and that I happened to have one. I got that out and – OH YEAH!!
8. Movement-some days I am a weeble wobble and I have fallen down. This week I have had less of this.
9. Art of all forms-As I was looking at my walls yesterday, I was thinking of how fortunate I am to be able to hang lovely pictures and am able to create art.
10. Writing-I would be lost without the ability to express myself in written word. Also, I was published.
