Happy Friyay and TTOT! Let’s get started!

I am grateful for my big sister, the one on the right in the photo here. Today would be her #72 birthday. Happy Heavely Birthday to my wonderful sister.
This month, I have been writing a lot about family as I am working on a memoir of essays and poetry for NaNoWriMo. Each weekday I host a writing event for women who love ot write and may or may not be participating in NaNo. It has been a great way of starting the discipline of writing on a regular basis. This has been something for November, but I am so grateful for the habit and results, that this may be a regular thing.
My sister from another mister sent us a beautiful, red teapot for a wedding present. I use it regularly as I am drinking less coffee (not giving it up-shudder that thought!). While I was waiting for my husband to have a meeting, I found my old tea shop and selected a couple of brews. I also discovered that a book store has been placed next to the tea shop. It’s been a bit since I have visited that shopping center.
The Book Launch for Caring for Souls was excellent.

My pretty red leafed tree is almost bare. It is the one I have been watching out my office space window. There are still some various colors out there and the evergreens will entertain my winter view. Who knows…maybe there will be snow on the evergreens. Pretty!
Another book is about ready for the printer and I am overjoyed! That launch is hopefully early December.
The blogging group is back to meetings on a monthly basis. I love getting together with others for this purpose. We even had treats thanks to Deanna Martinez and her culinary skills.
Sweater weather…love it.

Memories Sweet Taste

Taste the memories
Harvests after sweat and spade
Earth has its own soul

This Thing About Trees

leaves tangle in her hair
from aging trees
roots locked
in shared vibrations

spring brings growth
rings stretch the girth
age is crowned with colors
changing in time

sangria scented lips
tease in her shade
youth finds folly
yet, the wisdom
of the sage
overseer
prevails

there is no way for youth
to escape the elder court
its shadows and arms
hold all there is to know
about the beating
of the drum
of the heart

There Was A Night in Raleigh

Twinkling little lights
captured my attention
stars about the night

A celebration
clinking glasses
over charcuterie

I walked to the window
once formalities are done
I gaze downward

My eyes are drawn
to the thrift shop
on the corner

Play Time

As a little girl, I often created my own plays. My dolls and my sister’s dolls would be selected for the roles. Much inspiration came from Grimm’s Fairy Tales with my own little twists, here and there. Even then, I was figuring out different scenarios and testing them out. Rarely, did I show these plays to any audience, except the scroll plays in a shoebox. You just had to be there for these award winning performances.

If These Walls Could Talk

If These Walls Could Talk

If these walls could talk
they’d tell mom’s stories
of her younger years
and the adventures of
family and friends
throughout our lives

They’d tell of wonders
how that first date would go
while sister curled my hair
and put makeup on
my 12 year old face
while I perspired in her dress

They’d offer witness of each brother
who came home on military leave
to celebrate accomplishments
and share family life
and visits to old buddies

They’d tell of phone calls
from far away, from old friends
who never forgot relationships
were more important than things

These walls would tell of tears
laughter, hugs, kisses goodnight
and all the life held in between
these floral papers, these quiet walls
if only, they could talk

Memories of happy times in our lives are such blessings. I wish there had been a record of all the stories my mother alone would tell. As I am working on recording these, to the best of my memory, tears come and my heart warms. Later in his life, I recorded stories of daddy and his telling of his World War II service. I treasure that tape and the document created.

As I was working on Caring for Souls, what helped me is to look at old photographs of growing up. This has brought up so many memories that I am continuing to work in this process for another book.

Sometimes, we end up being the one who has been involved with caring for others or having others care for us. Mom did not care for having to be cared for, but it happened just the same. It was the love that was shared between and outside the walls that built these kind of relationships.

NANOWRIMO! I am doing a poetry write in for Nanowrimo, kinda like NaPoWriMo… That is usually in April, but I wanted to do poetry in November. As part of this is a chapbook challenge in the Garden of Neuro Institute. It is moving along. If you are in Nano-anything-WriMo here is my handle

Found these cute little acorn squashes and they are going into some kinda tasty dish.
This has been glorious weather.
Outings whenever it is nice and I can get out.
Finished projects. I crocheted a chemo cap for a friend and am working on the second one. It has been a long time since I have made any, but I found a lovely pattern. I am grateful that she has accepted my offer to do this for her. Here is the link in case you are interested.
Daughter is going to vote today with her program. A great step to independence!
We get to vote next week! Then all those ads will go away! WOOHOO!! Suggestion I made yesterday was to take all those signs and have a big bonfire and make s’mores and roast hot dogs as a community. Win:Win!
Ice Cream…I am always on the hunt for good, lesser calorie/sugar, tasty, non-dairy ice cream. Found a creamy, dreamy one yesterday at TJ’s It is certainly a contender.
