Heart Beats is Published!

We are thrilled to announce that Heart Beats: Anthology of Poetry has been published. Such a wonderful selection of poetry is now available for poetry lovers!

What is Heart Beats?

Heart Beats is an anthology of poetry about the various aspects of what makes us tick or makes a heart-beat. This is about love, life, happiness, anything that makes life more joyful or tolerable. Let’s face it. These are tough times and there have been many events in 2020 which have many of us shaking our heads. People who were once friends have gone their separate ways. Some are soul searching, examining life more closely as time has leant more for this. Heart Beats is about working through and maybe even overcoming these challenges. It is about what brings smiles to our faces or, at least, in our hearts. Heart Beats is about life’s ups and downs and in-between, and how different points of view merge into one beautiful collection of poetic works. Inviting poets from the world to take part made this project even more meaningful. We are a world of people, and the poetry community has become more culturally diverse. This is largely because of the pandemic, as people are interacting virtually more than before. All this said, Heart Beats has beautiful works of art, some of which may bring tears of sadness and of joy. Perhaps as you read, you will find that one thing that makes your heart beat.

For a Distant Muse appearing on Spillwords

Stop and read this. Poetry to love!

Bartholomew Barker's avatarBartholomew Barker, Poet

My poem For a Distant Muse appeared on Spillwords earlier today. It might seem familiar to regular readers since I posted it here last year but it still deserves some views on their platform. Some might even press the little heart button to indicate approval. A Spillwords account is not needed to give me a little love.

My gratitude to Dagmara and all the folks at Spillwords for accepting my work.

On Her Way Home

Shandy loaded up her beige Opal, the same reliable car she loved so much, calling her “Baby” since the first time she turned the key and the engine softly hummed, a sweet sound to hear. Heading to Iowa, she turned up her radio, playing the sweet sounds of Jim Croce, John Denver, and many other artists with whom she could sing along, a trip back in time, with her sweet “friends” in the airwaves.

After carefully studying her maps, she decided to go through the Missouri route, trying to avoid the long prairie like drive, something which, while it would be quiet, could be enough to make her sleepy and it was not long before she saw the Saint Louis Arch and gave it a salute while driving past the way. From Missouri she would meet the wedge of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri and cross over to Iowa by way of the toll bridge in Keokuk, Iowa. Right before she came to the bridge, she looked off to the right and saw an eagle soaring, as if it were waving her on to Iowa.

Shandy waved at the eagle, “Goodbye, Illinois, thank you for your service, it was brief, but I will be back to see you soon,” as she knew that her destination was also in the border town of Burlington, Iowa and all she had to do was roll on over the bridge; the road ahead would take her to her aunt’s house and to a new life, one which Shandy was looking forward to starting anew, but she always knew she had the past to pushed her forward, as her beloved, deceased husband was always going to be the driving force for her success, with this, she would not fail, and that is what she believed.

This was my installment for this weeks Six Sentence Story. Perhaps you would like to writer a story for this week. Just go here to Girlie on the Edge’s blog hop and give us your spin on the weekly word of SERVICE

Ten Things of Thankful – March 26 2021

Pastel by Lisa Tomey

It’s TTOT time, so let’s hop to it!

  1. Groceries. I was reading about people going to the store and finding empty shelves. I am grateful I don’t encounter this at the store. And I pray that folks soon have loaded shelves, again.
  2. Palm Sunday where I remember a story of looking at the palm of your hand and counting each finger with a statement of what you are grateful for.
  3. Books. I received a book today which was written by a long time ago friend, who may not even remember me, but it is a book called “Let Him Lead You” and I think it sounds like a good one to read.
  4. As so much of what I do is in the book world, I am grateful that I can sometimes listen to books so my eyes can rest. Now, if I could figure out how to make it more than 15 minutes into the book before I fall asleep. I wake up to a notification saying that I have finished the book and please review. I have to go back to where I last remember hearing the book. I can’t tell you how many times I have repeating fake finished a book. Bonus is that it helps with insomnia, so that’s another thankful.
  5. what I said up there in #4
  6. Easter cards suddenly were needed and I found a site where I found a nice picture to use and daughter has them ready to mail. Thankful for free pics and a daughter who is willing to create the pretties.
  7. Sometimes my world seems small, then I see that there are almost 50 people who have contributed to the anthology and I realize how big my world spans. I am grateful for the reach of this world, largely made possible with the internet.
  8. I just sent that there anthology to the last step, so it should be ready very soon. YAY!
  9. Daughter has a good friend who is sincere. That is a great big thankful!
  10. YOU! What have you found in this week of thankfuls? Jackie is all ears!
