OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s Friday and that means it is time for Ten Things of Thankful or TTOT! You might want to join us and if so you can go this this LINK

1. Secret Project – This has been completed for the first phase and TBA when completely done. It feels weird to have it completed and now I have to do another one, just not sure what.

2. Six Sentence Story – Still going strong even if I am often the last one in the gate (partly due to #1 ^^^) Here’s this weeks: Mountain Climbing

3. Wednesday Poetry Prompt on Poetic Asides. Here’s my poem: Briefly Speaking I didn’t finish this until this morning because of #1 ^^^

4. 5.

Swimming – the pool opened and it has been wonderful and is starting to help my sleep, so that’s a double gratitude!

6.
Cheryl and me 52019
Cousin and Charlotte visit – We did go see our cousin Cheryl and her bestie Terry last Saturday and had a lovely visit. Terry is selling a huge estate and she has lots of Elvis stuff along with lots of books and country music albums. Oh my! Wishing Cheryl a safe trip back to Iowa and hoping the flood waters recede.

7. First Responders – With the hugely overtaken lands in the Midwest, I am grateful for those who brave all this to help others. Also, those who simply help for the spirit of helping. “Reach out and touch somebody’s hand…”

8. 9. Books and Veterans – I met this fellow at the flea market where he sells books. Nice fellow who let me take his picture.

Here is his website: Bearded Veteran

10. Art – it was a scorcher on Sunday and we stopped at the NCMA and had a nice, cool tour. I particularly liked this one:

That’s that! So, how about joining in?

Briefly Speaking

Carrying his father’s worn, leather briefcase, Henry walked into the bar, “Set me up Jock, I need relief,” and off Jock went to fetch Henry’s favorite, on the rocks, and placed a napkin and the drink in front of the sad-looking gentleman, Jock knew all too well, as a regular in the bar, Henry divulged many secrets to his bartender and they were kept well in Jock’s memory bank, although there had been brief moments when he wrote them down, just in case Henry needed to retrieve something in his gray matter, that’s what friends are for, to keep things safe for when you need them and, well, so much more, Jock was that kind of friend, Henry knew this and depended on Jock’s wisdom from time to time, longing for answers to questions left in the dust of Henry’s life, even more nagging at his soul, so that’s why he needed scotch and Jock and the bar and bar mates and his dad’s briefcase, that was where he kept the secrets that only he could share, when he shared them, so that’s what Jock helped him with – keeping secrets – Jock being such a good friend and all.

Jock wrote a story
it was called secrets I know
it was very brief

Wednesday Poetry Prompt from Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetic Asides

For today’s prompt, write a brief poem. Sure, the poem itself can be brief (in the sense that it’s very concise). But the poem could be about a brief event. Or it could feature a briefcase or involve a media briefing. As always, take it wherever you wish!

Mountain Climbing – Six Sentence Story

Mountain Climbing

Approaching mountains challenges my inner ilk; What force would propel and what would cause slouching at angst of faltering, of falling down and never getting up? Classified as an elder, gray woman, will my will to be more become too overwhelming or would the fence allow a reasonable gate to let me inside? Cast away within the shadows of fear, it is easy to fall back and find solace in the coolness and the warmth of simply being. Until anxiety allows a surge of action, this fear takes hold and rules every decision made for my own demise. With this it is clear that the only way to take on a mountain is to get up, take my rod, tread forward, one step at a time, spiraling to the top.

taking in the light
permitting the light to glow
follow me on high

No Negativity Here

No Negativity Here

Trying to find the worse in you
makes finding the best even better
It’s hard to find what is not there
so does it really matter?
Calamity even has it’s perks
so why bother trying to turn this?
Just live life as it offers up
and accept that it truly can be bliss

 …..

This is response to the Wednesday prompt from Robert Lee Brewer’s Poetic Asides

For today’s prompt, write a negative poem. In this poem, maybe everything goes wrong. Or maybe everything could go wrong. Perhaps, this is a poem about subtraction. And remember, positive poets: a double negative makes a positive!
