Poet Talk with David Romanda

Poet Talk with Jim Krosschell Prolific Pulse Press Podcast

Jim Krosschell and I sat down for a discussion about his latest poetry book release "Man Afield" and more. About "Man Afield"Man Afield is a lyrical journey through the living world, guided by a backyard naturalist attuned to both wonder and warning. These poems chronicle spiritual and physical excursions into landscapes larger than any one mind or body — places where awe, joy, disorientation, and reckoning intertwine. Organized in six evocative sections, the collection:I. bears witness from a seaside deck;II. wanders through yard and neighboring woods;III. explores the shifting shoreline;IV. imagines the vast and restless ocean;V. surveys the scars of environmental damage;VI. honors home in its many meanings. Throughout, the poems dwell in the charged space where humans and the natural world meet. They examine our peculiar paradox: we are the only species that knowingly fouls its own nest — and the only one capable of choosing restraint. With clear-eyed honesty, Man Afield mourns the grinding erosion of precious places while celebrating the stubborn beauty that persists despite us — and sometimes because of us. From deck to forest trail, from tidal pull to smoke-streaked sky, these poems trace one person’s evolving relationship with plants, animals, weather, memory, and spirit. Intimate yet expansive, they invite readers to travel outward into the wild and inward toward belonging.Man Afield is at once a field journal, a meditation, and a love song — to earth, to home, and to the fragile bond between them.Learn more and make your purchase: https://www.prolificpulse.com/jimkrosschell

  1. Spring certainly is making a light yellow snowy presence and it’s not the yellow snow we are warned not to eat…This “snow” is more of a nose duster. It’s all out fault for washing the car last week. It took that as an invitiation to appear. So, I am thankful for remedies for the pollen dusting.
  2. Flowers are everywhere in the stores. Yes, I gave in and bought a bouquet of tulips. These are pretty white and red hybrids, still buds. I have them right where I can see them from my desk. They make me smile.
  3. Deals. Although inflation appears to be alive and well, I have always been a bargain hunter and have still been able to find reasonably priced items. Whew!
  4. We get to move our clocks forward. I look forward to this because it stays light longer. This always raises my spirits.
  5. I am surviving giving up -GASP-coffee. I had to for health reasons and it has made all the difference. I have switched to teas and love to find a variety to make it fun. I miss the taste of coffee, but it is the acid that bothers me, not the caffeine. I found a lovely vanilla chai and enjoy my pretty red teapot more, a gift from a dear friend.
  6. Daughter has been working on her puzzle and making progress. As well, she is doing paiinting with her acrylics. I am so grateful that she took the acrylics class at the art center. They were great to help her with color theory and good challenges. I am happy she is keeping it up. She not only paints pictures for her program, she also creates birthday cards for each of the people there. It’s fun to help her find designs and to hear that people liked their cards.
  7. Daughter is doing well at her volunteer job. They accomodate her need to sit while working and I appreciate that there are no issues.
  8. Tax season mid level is March 15 for the deadline, part 1. This means one more month past that to the end of the first season after April 17 (I think).
  9. Did I mention I changed my office space? I like it so much better. I have a view of my home and feel less isolated, but still have my claimed designated space.
  10. You! What’s your thankful this week? Please share in the comments or create a post. The more the merrier. Our little group has gone down and we would love newcomers and returners.

Ten Things of Thankful February 17 2023

Happy Friyay and TTOT time! Sorry I missed last week. My personal rule is that if I can’t give my full attention, it is better to pass. Once I post, I am also committed to read other people’s posts and to respond. I’ve been in a heavy reading mode which takes me away, but offers promises of possibiliities, so all is well.

Let’s get to those thankfuls.

Valentine’s Dinner Out with my Love – we don’t go out much, preferring to eat meals at home, even if it is take out. We needed to have supper while daughter was at her Night to Shine (Thanks to Tim Tebow) and stumbled upon this Italian restaurant in Wake Forest, NC It’s called Lelis and was it ever good. My love had his usual spaghetti marinara and I had gnocchi marinara with meatballs. It was such a delicious meal and reasonably priced.

So, I mentioned Night to Shine and was it ever! This was a great way to start out daughter’s birthday weekend! She and all other participants wore crowns and even rode a limo. Everyone was so beautiful in their outfits. The smiles were glowing and I can say that I believe a good time was had by all. We also picked up daughter’s best friend AKA sister-friend and those two had a blast! The chatter on the way and on the way home was lively.

The weekend continued with a celebration of daughter’s birthday. We ordered a pickup of her choice on Saturday and on Sunday, her actual birthday, we picked up an ice cream cake, made wings and sweet tater fries. She ended up sick for the night, but it was before the meal, so she had hers when she felt better. She is okay, now. It may have been a little bug, but she was fine for her Monday adventures. So, we are thankful for that!

Valentine’s Day was a nice, smooth day. We don’t usually do all out, mainly a nice dinner out like mentioned, but on the actual day I decided to take advantage of a free delivery option and order that. I just wanted the night off from the kitchen! We had a gift card that came in handy. Sweetheart did not have to work too late, so we were able to relax with supper. It’s tax season, so we can’t count on exactly what time he gets to come home.

Recently, I was able to spend time with another poet over lunch. We talked about a lot of things, including reminiscing about how we moved from acquaintances to friends. It’s good to celebrate and recognize people in our lives.

This week, I taught a class in the Garden of Neuro Institute called Crunchy Poetry. By that I mean we used some prompts to write poetry without worrying about form. That can come later, if desired. The results were amazing, but that did not surprise me. Sometimes we just need to let loose and let those words flow. And did those words ever flow! I am so fortunate to have met this wonderful group of women and share in the love of poetry.

Rest is important to our health. I did some reading and resting, managing to finish a couple of books and rebooting my brain. I hope that your week has gone well and that this coming week holds promise.

What are your thankfuls? Please share.
