Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
What if we had a clock where, instead of the ordinals representing hours, they represented months? At the end of the 12th month, it would roll over to the next year and a number would flash in the center of the clock. The optional feature (of course) is what the year represents. Option 1: your age. Option 2: the current year. Regardless of the numerics, at the conclusion of 12 months, the clock would begin flashing, there, in the center either the YEAR or your AGE…Hey, let’s give it up for Cassa Bassa! She took me up on last Sunday’s post invitation to provide this week’s prompt word. You go girl!
Have a fantastic week everyone. Challenge yourself. Do something different.

I’m a member of an on-line photography group, which has been interesting and fun for me. Each day we have a different topic/prompt to do, and yesterday’s topic was “Haiga”; Haiga is a style of Japanese painting that incorporates the aesthetics of haikai. Haiga are typically painted by haiku poets, and often accompanied by a haiku poem. Like the poetic form it accompanied, haiga was based on simple, yet often profound, observations of the everyday world. Stephen Addiss points out that “since they are both created with the same brush and ink, adding an image to a haiku poem was… a natural activity.” Well below I am sharing with you my response to the prompt. The pen and ink picture was painted by Carole in 1975(the year we met), and I wrote the attached Haiku…
Herbie pulled up in the old grey Dodge, “Bird” as named by his best friend, George; Turning the handle on the garage, he pulled up the door and went inside, scuffing into his workshop, and placed his worn tool bag on the bench, all the while thinking about what might be going on with him, coughing so much and feeling such a hard time with breathing; lighting up another one of his unfiltered he took a draw and slowly blow a stream of smoke before another hack came on, “these damn things are getting the best of me, maybe I oughta give them up,” he snuffed the butt since there was some more left for later and closing the garage door, he went inside the house.
Scents of cinnamon and apples greeted Herbie before he could enter the house and he smiled, knowing his dear wife, Clarabelle, had made his favorite dessert of apple pie; opening the door, he saw her standing at the stove, unaware he entered; easing up behind her, but being ever so careful she was not in danger of getting burned he reached around her waist and gave her a squeeze and a peck on her warm, red cheek, to which she giggled and said, “hi, honey, how was your day?”
“It was pretty good, we got old man Fletcher’s barn door fixed and I don’t think he’ll have any escaped cows anymore, ‘course that’ll mean no more cream for us when we rescue another stray, but that’s okay.”
“Well, we will be okay without so much free cream; my hips are getting too wide as it is.”
“Clair, my love, you know I love your hips and everything they’re attached to, so don’t you go talking that silliness, as long as we stay healthy, we have no worries,” patting her hips, letting out another hack, Herbie excused himself and went to the bathroom to wash up for supper; it looked like chicken and dumplings, and that was a good enough reason to scrub extra hard.
Tending to the chicken and dumplings, Clarabelle thought to herself, I hope he will be open to going to the doctor for that cough, there is not enough whiskey honey to solve that problem, and she felt her eyes water and felt she was being watched, just then she turned around and there he was, on the floor, passed out from lack of breath; she quickly called an ambulance and stayed by his side, and when they arrived, they could get him to breathing, but took him in to the hospital, assuring Clarabelle, that they would do all they could to help him and she grabbed her purse and took off right behind them, with prayers that her faith, unfiltered, would carry him through, and she believed it did.
And there you have it! This is my Six Sentence Story for this week! Would you like to join us? Go to this LINK and check it out!
Time to think about things I am thankful for and I have a lot!
Health improvement – I have had some serious, as in #10, pain with my right knee. I finally broke down and went to the orthopedist and he gave me medication to help. I am feeling a difference already, just dealing with side effects, but this too will pass. I can now walk about the home without as much assistance. I am looking at surgery possibly in the spring. I am grateful for being able to choose the when.
Hallmark – Call them sappy romances but sometimes I just need a little sappy. Yesterday, while healing with the medicine, I watched a Hallmark movie. It was actually controversial and that made it even better.
Heart Beats anthology is coming along. I am editing the contributed poetry. It is a tough job (HAHA) I LOVE reading these!
Help from others – I needed some guidance on a project and there were several people who helped via a Meetup this week. I came out of there with inspiration and a lot of links.
Health Care Workers – Yesterday, I saw a notice that if a staff was exceptional to you, please let the office know. I would have to count each of the staff in order to do that. I will get a survey and tell them that.
Helpful devices – having trekking poles comes in handy when you need to navigate and don’t have crutches or a walker. I actually prefer these over crutches. But, won’t turn down crutches if I need them.
Home delivery – isn’t it lovely to be able to be at home and have groceries brought to you? And how about all the other orders that come to your home. It has come to the point where you can pretty much stay home and shop and I like that. And by still getting items from local places and keeping drivers employed, it’s a win:win I did a drive up the other day and loved it. Anybody who knows me knows I do not like to shop, so this is perfect.
Habitat for Humanity – what a great place to accept the things we no longer need. Other than clothing, they take a lot of stuff and make good use of the things. And if I were to shop, I would go there. They get awesome books and picture frames.
Happy Smiles when I go into the world. They make it better. And how do I see these smiles? Masks and all… It is in the eyes, the voices, the helping hands.
How about you? What is your thankful this week? Let’s hear about it, okay? Harry the Hamster wants to hear!
