Writer Talk with Sherry Comstock Prolific Pulse Press Podcast

About the Book: Riptides: Book 2 of the Caines Island StoriesCallie has become successful: her marriage remains vibrant, her business is flourishing, her daughter is doing well, she still has her lifelong friends, and the island hasn't undergone any major changes. But life isn't static. She begins to experience losses and subtle changes in her relationship with her daughter, Kim.Kim has landed her dream job as a nurse practitioner, working with individuals with mental illness. She marries and starts a family. But she too, faces challenges. Herr husband isn't who she thought he was. Professionally. Kim becomes frustrated with the corporate influence in healthcare which seems to ignore the needs of her marginalized patients.Intertwined with Callie's and Kim's individual stories are episodes in US history that alternately offer hope or despair at the world order. Riptides brings to light many of the challenges faced by women and other marginalized groups. But there is always hope as the small island community bands together.https://sherrycomstock.com/About the AuthorSherry and her husband live in the Triad region of North Carolina. For the Wednesday poetry challenge which will also be my poem for National Poetry Month, Day 13, I am to choose a favorite place or natural place and write a Haiku. So, here goes. Thank you to Lisa Bolin of the Garden of Neuro Institute for the inspiration.

A Poet Like Me

A poet like me
Casting nets to the windy
Waterfalls wonder
If there is a melody
Playing for their rhythmic splash

Nature calls for me
Letting them to other souls
Telling their story
Asking for breaths of honor
And telling of their life songs

At last, they hear verbs
Splashing falling waterfalls
Waters to refresh
Standing underneath the flow
Feeling the wet, mossy stones

Taking leaps for love
Hand in hand forever more
And next, the lovers
Dance upon the sandy shores
Aromatic tides of salt

Shell crumbs under feet
Tides rushing with salt and sand
Like dermabrasion
Scrubbing sludge and adding more
Taking away worried songs

This is in response to the prompt: ______like me. Read more here: Dead Poets Live

Aromatic Adventures of the Harvest

The scent of a cork
The fullness of the concord
Natural juices
These are the ripeness of life
Fresh and aromatical

Casks filled with cider
Scentfully of ripe sweetness
Tasting like heaven
Wiping of mouth on shirt sleeves
This is the gusto of life

Sweat working orchards
Dripping down the sunburned neck
Sliding to backsides
Freshness of sweat drenched arm pits
Ripe from lives labored for all

Taste the vineyards juice
Sip the ciders sweetness full
Thankful to labors
Making all things possible
With devotion to us all
