This all started from this session:
You see, I was planning to do another anthology for 2022, following the Heart Beats anthology of 2021. It seemed most appropriate to go to these most important topics. And, before we knew it, it became real.
A special shout out to Zaneta Varnado Johns for her dedication as Co-Editor for this anthology. It made a huge difference to have this assistance.
We hope to see you on June 20, the dedicated date to recognize Juneteenth.
We Grow Together
You leaned over me, to shade me from harm You poised your strengthened arms for true support Hoisted, crawled up to your bough, strong with arms You welcomed me into your nature fort Your girth reminds me of my own true strength When life of wanders strengthened my own thighs Your size reminds me of my life’s own length How when we grow together we reach skies Dare we plan a life, as my journal fills To plan a destiny, filled with hope sought Your own ancestors pulp gave me the will To document a life well-worn from thought Together we are ready for our cause You present to me ready without pause Lisa Tomey May 9, 2022 This poem is in response to the weekly Living Poetry Prompt
Remote Control
Sarenda landed a remote spot on the edge of awareness, but close to comfort
She found a picnic table to start each day with coffee and cereal before logging in
Scenery was often inspiring to her thoughts and she cranked out many warm words
Some were rather hot, even spicy, but not too untame for modern species
Cats got your tongue, ran through her mind in remembrance of teaseful times
She found her claim on this space to be just the right amount of remote control
