Ten Things of Thankful-February 5 2022

Good Morning and Happy TTOT! I seem to be doing these on Saturdays, so hope you don’t mind I am a day late. Let’s hop to it.

  1. Thankful for trees that hold the gifts of the seasons and allow the world to see. Thankful that trees don’t hide.
  2. Thankful for Black History Month, which should also be Black History Year and I will observe it as such. And for the true portrayals of how it was and how it is, so I can increase my knowledge. I have been posting daily recognitions and challenges in the Poetry Circle of the Garden of Neuro Institute-A Safe and Brave Space for Women. Here is the link for this: LINK Thankful for the Garden of Neuro for providing a Safe and Brave Space to voice my thoughts and to share my experiences. And that the Poetry Circle of which I am the manager, has grown to just over 100 members.
  3. I think there are 2 thankfuls in #2…
  4. Thankful for this book of which I am a part: and you can buy a copy HERE (I know that’s not a TTOT thing, but this is something of which I am proud and want to share.
  5. Thankful for the opportunity to work with others in a joint venture this month. I will do a separate post about that when it’s ready. I am so fortunate to have people who support this.
  6. Thankful for the public library because I cannot afford to buy all the books.
  7. Thankful for the doctors and nurses and medical professionals, in general for helping us find answers for daughter. It is an ongoing thing, so we will continue operating on hope and faith.
  8. Thankful for good parents who taught me a thing or two about being self sufficient. Suffice it to say that my independent streak was set at a pretty early age.
  9. Thankful for the completion of another amazing poetry book and that I get to work with amazing poets to help their dreams come true. That will be another post, I promise that.
  10. YOU – Will you be my friend valentine? I don’t have a decorated box with construction paper and paste, but I have a heart which is capable of filling up. Here’s my valentine box in case you want to drop a virtual card in:

Worn Out Shoes

Lessons from a frugal life

He received his first pair of sneakers when he was just a little boy, toddling around to learn to walk about life

No matter how much wear and tear there would be on his shoes, he wore them until his feet no longer fit

Each school year, he managed to get a new pair to start the year, knowing he might not make it to the end without pinching toes, but he hushed about it until summer ended

Barefooted playing was the normal way in the summer fields of play, making those shoes last longer, just a once in awhile bee sting was the price he paid

As a man, he still kept the habit of buying shoes only when the old ones were worn out, but his boss was none too pleased

On his desk was a box, wrapped and bowed, no name, no message, but new shoes, the leather kind, shiny and brown and he knew he’d be better off to wear out those shoes

…..

This is my effort at putting together a Six Sentence Story/Poem. You can check out what the other’s have to share by going HERE

Ten Things of Thankful – January 29 2022

Good Morning and Welcome to my day late and dollar short version of TTOT! Let’s hop to it!

  1. We did get a little snow and a little more after snow #1 melted. From the look out my window, snow #2 has commenced to melting, so that means safe travels, so yay!
  2. I received notification that four poems entitled “Memories Sweet Taste”, “This Thing About Trees”, “There Was A Night In Raleigh”, and “An Uncertain Life” have all been accepted for The Short of It on the I Write Her website. It’s such an honor to have these poems accepted.
  3. With the best of efforts, I have managed to escape viruses and hope to continue to do so. I am not a hermit, but I try to be careful. It’s not easy, though, for those who have to work or be educated outside the home.
  4. We had a great turnout for submissions for the anthology “Social Justice Inks.” The poems have been through their first organization and next is to deep read them.
  5. We are starting to get some submissions for the caregivers project. There is room for more, for sure.
  6. This morning I participated in an International Women’s Poetry Reading at the Garden of Neuro. It was lovely and one person read her poetry in Swedish.
  7. Coffee.
  8. Warmth BIG TIME
  9. My great niece is going to do the artwork for the caregiver’s project.
  10. YOU Toss me a snowball full of thankfuls!

Shelter

Purcilla was spotted at a glimpse, purring, hungry

Her crystalized coat, appeared first, her eyes next

Her shelter was spotted on the porch, she was hivering silver in a large planter

Tink-tink-tink on a tuna tin, Henry got her attention

He placed the can on the porch, near the door

She cautiously approached, devoured and purred

…..

this is my six lined poem for this week’s six sentence story, following the prompt word “shelter.”
