6 Six Sentence Story – Love the Turtles

Love the Turtles

What do poaching

coastal development

plastic debris

pollution

unfair trade

have in common?

It is hard to hear this

for my heart breaks

it’s true

placing hand over heart

I swear to make certain

to see this through.

Several species of turtles

are endangered

here’s a few:

Leatherbacks

Greens

Loggerheads

Hawksbills

Olive Ridleys

Kemp’s Ridleys

Flatbacks

all turtles with a purpose.

Empowered by our own abilities

we can make a difference

sharing the facts

taking a stand

telling our fellow people

taking a ride to the ocean-side

caring for those more vulnerable

reading-learning-teaching.

While walking along the lake side

there were so many turtles

swimming

sunbathing

nestling

enjoying their domains

kept in splendid care

signs posted “Do Not Feed the Wildlife”

trusting that people are following those rules.

Left to their own

creatures fare well

people kind can help by not harming

not feeding when they ought not

polluting

leaving plastic stuffs to float out to the waters

all that mess to bring about bother and death

when it is time to show our love

peace has to come

I am certain.

  1. It’s so exciting when we are at the shore to see the wooden dowels and rope that tell you there’s a turtle nest under the sand, to stay away. A world without that would be sad.

    Also, it’s sad that on my morning walks, i have to take bags to pick up trash.

  2. a very engaging cautionary Six (thought to use ‘cautionary rhyme’… not certain it would hold… so I opted for the more clarklike approach).
    A difficult balance, to write of hope while elucidating facts of despair, no?
    You surely have succeeded in this.
